Looklist is a new “curated inspiration engine for fashion and hairstyles,” the company says – and it has secured $174,000 in seed funding from Boulder-based Foundry Group through its AngelList Syndicate.

The money will allow Looklist to grow its design, development and community management teams, to develop new features aimed at creating collaboration opportunities between users and stylists, and to build iOS app versions of its search platform.

Looklist’s aim is to deliver an “image discovery experience.” Unlike Google Images, Tumblr, or Pinterest, Looklist’s proprietary weighting algorithm, combined with its thorough tagging and filtering system and moderation of content, offers a different way for consumers and stylists alike to find, filter, and share fashion and hair inspiration.

Shaz Sedighzadeh is the company’s founder and CEO. Sedighzadeh says, “The idea was born out of a frustration with the unorganized mess of image content found on the Internet today. Even the largest blogging and pinning platforms are at the mercy of poor, user-generated hashtagging as a means for providing search. This seed round will allow us to grow the functionality, improve our layered search technology, and it is timed perfectly as the conversation around improving inspiration search and discovery is heating up.”

Seth Levine, Managing Director at Foundry Group, adds, “Looklist is cleaning up a very messy corner of the Internet, making exploring, sharing and discovering fashion around the web more intuitive and accessible. With its beautiful and easy to use design and features we see a broad application for Looklist from consumers to designers, publishers, brands, and retailers. Looklist is like Houzz but for style inspiration.”

Looklist is also working with several clothing boutiques and hair salons to test in-store touchscreen kiosks in their lobbies. With these interactive displays, customers at a salon or clothing boutique could search the Looklist platform and be able to quickly find and share style inspiration before their appointment.
